Dome show for 2024 World Economic Forum event
For the 2024 World Economic Forum in Davos, I was commissioned to create a segment for a full-dome show at a corporate reception. The theme focused on whirlpools and spiral formations in water. We settled on an abstract, particle-based interpretation to capture the dynamic motion of whirls, using a fluid simulation to guide millions of particles and reveal intricate turbulent patterns.
I used Unity3d, VFX Graph, and custom made fluid simulations to achieve real-time control over the sim, particle system, and visual aesthetics. This allowed for rapid iterations and quick exploration of different approaches. The final output was then exported as a high-resolution video for delivery.



I experimented with several fluid simulation techniques, like 2D stable fluids and full 3D Navier-Stokes and SPHÂ methods. In order to keep particle count decoupled from the simulation, and focus on turbulent behaviour, I settled on the former two. Some captures from the research process are shown below:
